FAIR AND SQUARE

After Fair Ripple was retired, I bought a breeding share in Prefix, Hann, 3 times National Champion in Dressage at Intermediare I, II and Freestyle.  Besides my hunter champions, several of his offspring competed at FEI levels in dressage.  Fair Ripple’s daughter, Fair Affair, produced Savior Faire, an Amateur Owner Champion, chosen by the judges at Upperville as the horse they’d most like to have in their barn.  Another TB mare, Each and All , produced Fair and Square and All’s Fair, a potential superstar who injured his left front hoof early in his career when he was cast in his stall.  He was absolutely beautiful over fences, but the landings stung so he wasn’t successful as a hunter.  He scored in the mid- 70’s in Dressage at First Level, but he was still difficult to keep sound, so he’s one of our  retirees.  Fair and Square came back to us after a successful career as an Adult Amateur Champion with Diane Burt, then did Novice Eventing for a year before being retired for breeding.  Their dam, Each And All, a fox hunter most of her life, excelled at CrossCountry, but started Dressage at 9, too late to be competitive at Eventing.  Her sire, Vimy Ridge, was a Stakes winner and leading Steeplechase sire. Her pedigree includes some of the most sought after TB sport horse lines, such as Fair Trial and Wild Risk.

FAIR LILY FAIR LO

Fair Lily Fair Lo was my last foal for over 10 years.  I bred my personal horse to Another Reef, TB, a G1 Stakes winner who had sired the Best Young Horse at Devon 2 years in a row.   His offspring include  Admiration & Bocelli - CH Regular & Conformation Hunters, and Just George & The Oscar - CH A/O & Junior Hunters.  Cimmaron was a Children’s Jumper that came from Vick Russell’s barn to be my personal horse.  All I knew was that she had done the Canadian Indoors as  an Equitation horse, then was successful here as a jumper for Vick.  She was well put together, very uphill and if you turned her loose in the ring, she’d jump all the jumps by choice.  Sometimes you just have to go for it.  Lily, her only foal, was gorgeous, doing serpentines with perfect lead changes as a yearling and jumped out of her pasture in perfect form.  Unfortunately, due to a freak accident that fractured her hip, she had to be retired at three, and she’s lived with us ever since.  She loves being a Mom.

PALLAS ATHENA
A friend asked if she could foal her mare out at my farm.  When the filly broke with Clostridial diarrhea at 24 hours old, she couldn’t afford the intensive care, so that’s how we got Dahlia.  In 2008, we had to find a mare in a hurry when the vet thought Petunia hadn’t caught because of her age.  Petunia proved her wrong, so we had three foals that year instead of the planned two.  We knew nothing about Pallas Athena’s performance history, but she was very correct with beautiful movement, and we really liked Dahlia.  It’s a good thing we took a chance because her foal is perhaps the best of the three.

Her sire,
Hall of Fame, is an Elite AWS stallion by Art Deco the famous Dutch Warmblood pinto stallion, out of Strikebound, a Dutch approved TB mare. He has been highly  successful in both dressage and hunters as performer and sire, including Claim to Fame, the first Pinto to be CH at Devon.  Her dam, Echo is a half sister to the legendary RoxDene, 6 times USEF Working Hunter of the Year. Their sire, Aristos B, also a Dutch Warmblood, was a successful show jumper before retiring to stud at 11.  Echo is out of a mare named Spectator, whose breeding was unknown, but she was approved as breeding stock by the International Sport Horse Registry.

CATHERSTON DAZZLER

CATHERSTON DAZZLER
Catherston Dazzler was the leading British Event Sire in 2000, according to the World Breeding Federation Ranking. Not only was he ranked 6th in the world, but he was the youngest stallion and had the most progeny competing internationally. His sire, Dutch Courage WPN, was the first horse ever to win a World Bronze Medal representing Britain, plus 32 Grand Prix wins over his career. He had a tremendous impact both on the sport of dressage in Britain and on British Sport Horse breeding. Dazzler’s dam, Welton Gazelle ISH, an Advanced event horse, also produced Yarlands Summer Song, Silver Medalist at WEG, who represented France at the Rome Olympics in eventing. Her full brother, Welton Louis, was also an advanced event horse, an upper level dressage horse, and a leading sire of event horses, including Welton Ambassador and Welton Romance.

Catherston Dazzler carries two of the most influential performance lines available to the serious breeder. He has 734 Dressage points and has represented Great Britain in Grand Prix Dressage both at home and abroad . He also competed successfully in Eventing, placing in several horse trials in 1991 before concentrating on dressage.

WELTON ADONIS

WELTON ADONIS
Welton Adonis is a young horse who’s been lightly campaigned in open competitions due to working with Ann Dunham towards representing Great Britain in the 2008 Paralympics in Hong Kong. Even though they only made the short list, it’s a testament to his temperament to be one of the few stallions competing in this discipline. He’s been used as a schoolmaster at Talland School of Equitation, and has a win at Pre-novice Horse Trial, equivalent to our Training level. He was always clear on cross country at his few outings. The plan is to further his career in dressage this year, in addition to his duties at stud.

Most of his offspring are young, but are very promising, like my filly. Adonis’ offspring swept the youngest classes at the Welton Stud show at Hartpury. Adonis has a double dose of Welton superstars in his pedigree. He is by the 4* Event Horse, Welton Apollo, who represented the European 3 Day Event Team at Burghley in 1989. Apollo is the only stallion ever to complete Badminton in 3 successive years. Adonis is out of the Advanced Event Mare, Baby Welton, Supreme CH at RBB British Mare Championships. She’s by Welton Crackerjack - the only 4* Event Horse to Sire winners of all three 4* events - Burghley, Badminton & Rolex.

I want to thank EMCO Stallion Services for donating the two breedings to the inaugural USEA eBay auction. When we lived in Maryland, a friend had an incredible horse with Welton bloodlines, very athletic with an amazing mind. I always wanted to breed a horse like that one. Now I have four like that on the ground and more possible in the future. Thanks again to EMCO for making that dream possible. I would also like to thank both Welton Stud and Catherston Stud for producing these 2 stallions among the many other great horses that have come from their lines.
